I came across this Reel and I totally forgot that Billy Crawford sang this amazing Pokemon theme song.

Billy Crawford was this young Filipino-American singer that I knew about from watching TFC (The Filipino Channel) with my family. He was also from NYC (or at least I’m now learning he went to school in NYC), so it was pretty wild and a big deal to know that he was chosen to be the singer for this iconic and major theme song of my childhood. And if you know about us Filipinos, we LOVE any representation on any American media.

Not only that, Pokemon: The First Movie was a huge pivotal part of my childhood.

It blew my mind when Donphan appeared out of the Pokeball in that first battle with Ash and it was clearly a moment for the kids to say “IS THAT A NEW POKEMON?” aka me.

Being reminded of this fact was a deep cut because I’m sure it’s one of the reasons why I’m so attached and love Pokemon so much.

I generally love Pokemon because I also love animals, but what a great memory of my childhood, and the start of an on-going obsession well into adulthood.
